KELLYVILLE, Okla. -- Danny Smith turned back a determined
Jamie Passmore to win the sprint A feature at Creek County Speedway Saturday.
Smith roared past Eric Pittman for the lead on lap seven and raced unchallenged
until a yellow flag slowed the race on lap 11. That allowed Passmore to charge
up behind Smith and challenge for the lead. Passmore pulled outside of Smith for
the next two laps and the two raced wheel-to-wheel until the race went red after
David Stephenson flipped in turn three. On the restart Smith continued to lead
and Passmore remained close but could not get past. Rafe Essary moved into third
and points leader Roy Larkin finished fourth.
Chad Davis inherited the lead on a lap 15 restart and went on to win his third
modified feature of the season. Leroy Cook, Jr. was leading when the yellow came
out on lap 15 for a stalled car. Cook was sent to the pits after debris fell
from his car and Davis took over.
Jason Redman led the first two laps before giving way to Tim Barnes. Barnes set
a strong pace with Cook moving into second on lap five. Cook took over the lead
after a lap 11 restart with Davis moving into third.
Carl Lewis led all 20 laps to win his second mini stock feature of the season.
Lewis led daughter Amy Lewis for the first six laps before Orran Boyce climbed
into second. Boyce tried to mount a final turn challenge but Lewis held his
ground.
Shelly Leonard was a start to finish winner in the front wheel drive division.
It was Leonard's first win of the season and the second for the number 5 car.
Leonard benefited from a lap nine yellow that found him stopped on the track at
the start finish line. However Leonard was given his spot back in front of the
field on the restart and easily went on to victory. Nick Gauntt finished second
after moving into the runner up position on lap 11. The modified division will
be off on Saturday and super stocks return along with FWD Bombers, modifieds and
sprints. Race time is 7:30.
