KELLYVILLE, Okla. -- Chad Davis and Kenny Grumadas are the drivers to beat in
their respective divisions at Creek County Speedway. Davis sits atop the
modified standings while Grumadas leads the way in the mini stock division. Yet
both entered last weeks show still looking for their first main event win of the
season.
Now the wait is over. Davis and Grumadas each drove to victory in their
respective classes on Saturday. Davis grabbed the lead from Eric Redman after a
lap seven restart and stayed in command over the next 13 laps for the win. Matt
French wheeled into second on lap nine but gave way to Mark Hughes two laps
later. Hughes and French battled for several laps but neither could touch Davis
as the checkered waved. French fell to fourth in the closing laps after Joel
Hill passed for third.
Grumadas did not work his way into the lead of the mini stock main event until
lap 15. Grumadas caught leader Dee Denton on lap 14 and slipped past him in
lapped traffic. Denton remained in second with Jason Tyre moving into third. Two
red flags waved in the race due to flips. Craig Barnhart rolled in turn four on
lap 1. On the restart Jason Tyre challenged Joshua Tyre and took away the lead.
Jason was still leading when the red waved again on lap 7 after Joshua flipped
in turn three. Jason continued to lead on the restart until Denton challenged on
lap 10.
Roy Larkin returned to victory lane in the sprint car division with his fifth
win of the season. Brett Thompson passed Eric Pittman for the lead on lap two
and set the pace as Larkin was charging toward the front. On lap six Larkin
raced wheel to wheel with Thompson and took over the top spot on lap seven.
Larkin went on to victory with Thompson holding down second and Brent Bates
finishing third.
Phil Martin won for the second straight week in the front wheel drive bomber
division. Brian Stewart led for seven laps until Janie Snook turned over in turn
three to bring out a red flag. That closed up the field for the restart and
Martin took advantage and roared into the lead. Nick Gauntt shot into second and
points leader Rick McKinney drove into third and both followed Gauntt to the
finish. Kimberly Bishop finished fourth after running as high as second early in
the race.
Saturday super stocks return along with sprints, front wheel drive bombers and
mini stocks. The modified division will have the night off. Racing begins at 7
p.m.
